Knitting… what a passion!

Knitting is an easy and very exciting hobby. Many think that it is only suitable for grannies, while instead a trend called knitting comes from the United States. It’s a trend that has come back into fashion recently, just think that Russell Crowe uses knitting needles to create sweaters!

Knitting skill is acquired with experience and the equipment needed to start this passion is minimal and absolutely inexpensive.

Needles are the basic knitting tools and can be found on the market in various materials: steel, aluminium, plastic and wood. The choice also depends a lot on the personal taste of each of us.

They can also be single-pointed, double-pointed or circular. The former are used for the execution of all flat pieces, while the two-pointed ones are used both for working garments in the round (gloves, collars, socks, hats) and also for the execution of multi-coloured stitches. Circular needles are used for seamless tubular knitting.

Furthermore, knitting needles are characterized by a number that corresponds to their diameter. We start from number 2, the thinnest, and go up to number 10. Generally, the most used needles for medium-sized yarn work are number 5 and number 6.

To start cultivating this wonderful passion for knitting, in addition to needles, other tools are essential. In fact, it is also useful to have a pair of scissors to cut the threads, a tape measure for the various measurements, a crochet hook to collect the stitches, balls of wool or cotton.
