Quality Yarn for Sensitive Skin: Not Just for Babies
We all know how extremely delicate and sensitive babies' skin is, easily prone to irritation and allergies. That's why the choice of yarn for making accessories like hats, sweaters, booties, socks, and blankets is crucial.
These days, I'm testing a fine machine-knitting yarn made of 95% extra-fine merino wool and a very small amount of synthetic fiber, which makes it more resistant to deformation during washing.
I will never tire of saying how truly exceptional fine machine yarns, hand-knitted with multiple strands, are: incredibly soft, fluffy, and delicate to the touch.
The yarn I'm trying has a metric count of 27,500, which means that in 1 kg of yarn there are 27,500 meters. Does that seem like just a number to you? Let's try to make it more concrete with some practical calculations:
As you can see, the yield of this yarn is very high, which also makes it extremely advantageous in terms of quantity.
Regarding knitting:
This is an opportunity that won't last long.
I hope this information is useful for your next projects.
Happy crafting and... happy yarns!

The yarn I'm trying has a metric count of 27,500, which means that in 1 kg of yarn there are 27,500 meters. Does that seem like just a number to you? Let's try to make it more concrete with some practical calculations:
- With 4 plies: 27,500 ÷ 4 = 6,875 m per kg → 687 m in 100 g
- With 5 plies: 27,500 ÷ 5 = 5,500 m per kg → 550 m in 100 g
- With 6 plies: 27,500 ÷ 6 = 4,584 m per kg → 458 m in 100 g
As you can see, the yield of this yarn is very high, which also makes it extremely advantageous in terms of quantity.
Regarding knitting:
- With 4 plies you can use needles from 2.5 to 3.5 mm, depending on your tension and the type of project.
- For hats and socks I use 2.5 mm needles (I knit loosely).
- For larger accessories like blankets or shawls I use 3-3.5 mm needles.
This is an opportunity that won't last long.
I hope this information is useful for your next projects.
Happy crafting and... happy yarns!
