It is essential to make a sample and wash it before starting the final work.
Washing recycled cashmere is the same as washing cashmere; follow these steps.
It is recommended, where possible and especially for machine knitting, to dry clean the sample/garment first to allow the fibers to stabilize, and then wash the sample/garment in the washing machine following our advice below.
Machine washing should only be done the first time. Afterwards, it is strongly recommended to hand wash the garment.
To achieve maximum softness, I recommend dry cleaning the garment and then washing it according to the advice below. Dry cleaning can be done at any dry cleaner that knows how to clean knitwear.
MACHINE WASH TREATMENT:
The recommended wash is very gentle, and the presence of vinegar will be an excellent descaler:
– Machine wash at 30° for 7 minutes with very little detergent for delicate items
– Rinse in the washing machine
– Machine wash at 30° for 7 minutes with very little fabric softener and 1/4 of a measuring cup of white wine vinegar
– Spin at 400 rpm for 5 minutes (or as little as possible)
– Dry flat, avoiding direct sunlight
This washing procedure applies to samples, finished garments, or the yarn itself.
In the first washes, some "fuzz" may come out, which is simply excess fiber that is purged. This is normal for recycled cashmere yarns.
But I urge you, always make a sample before doing the final work, so you can decide whether to work it more or less tightly and whether to wash it more or less, to achieve the result you like best.
Washing yarn before working it requires expertise; otherwise, the yarn will tangle during washing and become unusable. It is therefore necessary to make skeins one meter in diameter, no more than one hundred grams each, and tie them with at least 5-6 interwoven ties so that the yarn does not tangle. If you are not experienced with skeins, first try with low-value yarns (acrylic, cheap wool, etc.) to see the final result. If the skeins do not tangle in the washing machine, you can start with cashmere.
This machine washing procedure should only be performed the first time; subsequently, it is recommended to hand wash garments following this procedure:
If you want your pullover to always remain soft and fluffy, follow these tips:
- Soak it in lukewarm water with a delicate detergent or hair shampoo (use very little), adding a little white vinegar if there are stripes or bright colors.
- Leave it to soak for a short time, at most ten to fifteen minutes.
- Do not rub it and handle it gently.
- Rinse it patiently several times with plenty of water, always lukewarm, until the water is perfectly clear.
- Do not wring it out; instead, remove the water by pressing gently.
- Wrap the pullover in a towel to remove excess water.
- Lay it flat on a horizontal surface, taking care to avoid direct sunlight.
- Let it dry at room temperature, never near a heat source.
- Iron it with a strong jet of steam without pressing with the iron.
