What is Bottonato yarn?

During the spinning process, specifically during blending or mixing, "slubs" of various sizes can be added, which will give a speckled effect to the yarn. Slubs, also called neps, are small tufts of fiber, usually silk, cashmere, or wool for fine yarns, that are colored and give this mini-polka dot effect to the yarn and consequently to the finished garment. The slubs can be of various sizes, smaller or larger and colored, and can be mixed in various colors, depending on the desired effect. In the photos below you can see some examples of slub yarns and sweaters, and you can also see how bourette silk slubs are made. These slubs are very small, but there can also be much larger ones and in many other colors. www.florencecashmereyarn.com
