Pearl stitch rib

Pearl Rib Stitch

Inspired by a project a customer sent us a few days ago, today we're talking about the pearl rib stitch.

The pearl rib stitch is a very elastic and soft knitting pattern, perfect for cuffs, hats, scarves, and other winter garments. It resembles classic ribbing, but with a richer and more three-dimensional effect.

Materials needed

  • Yarn
  • Knitting needles suitable for the chosen yarn

Pearl Rib Stitch Pattern

The pearl rib stitch is worked on an even number of stitches and follows this pattern:

Version 1 (most common)

  1. Row 1 (right side): Knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front. Repeat to the end of the row.
  2. Row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, knit 1. Repeat to the end of the row.

Always repeat these two rows.

Version 2 (alternative)

If you want an even more three-dimensional effect, you can work as follows:

  1. Row 1: Knit 1, twisted purl 1. Repeat to the end of the row.
  2. Row 2: Twisted knit 1, purl 1. Repeat to the end of the row.

This method accentuates the texture of the stitch.

Helpful Tips

✅ Use slightly larger needles for a softer effect.
✅ Work loosely to avoid tightening the stitches too much.
✅ Perfect for scarves and hats due to its elasticity.
