What is Bottonato yarn?
During the spinning process, specifically during the blending or mixing, "nubs" of various sizes can be added, which will give the yarn a flecked effect.
The nubs, also called flecks, are small clumps of fiber, generally silk, cashmere, or wool for fine yarns, colored, that give this mini polka-dot effect to the yarn and consequently to the finished garment.
The nubs can be of various sizes, smaller or larger and colored, and can be mixed in various colors, depending on the desired effect.
In the photos below you can see some examples of nubbed yarns and pullovers, and you can also see how the bourette silk nubs are made. These nubs are very small, but there can also be much larger ones and in many other colors.
