How to knit the knit stitch with circular needles (1). Traditional Technique

Start learning how to knit with circular needles, an innovative tool that will allow you to create knitting projects more easily and quickly. Follow Imparare con Alicja, an expert teacher and knitter, on a journey to discover these techniques, ideal for both beginners and experts.

In the video you saw in the previous post, I tried to convince you that working with circular needles is much more convenient than traditional long needles.

Did I succeed?

Not everyone knows that the traditional technique (where the yarn from the ball is held in the right hand) and the continental technique (where the yarn from the ball is held in the left hand) do not depend on the needles.

The choice depends on personal preference and, often, on the tradition of the area where one lives.

You can use long needles and work with the continental technique.

You can use circular needles and the traditional technique.

Today I'm presenting the first video lesson, in which I'll show you how easy it is to work with the traditional technique (which many people are familiar with) using circular needles.

Seeing is believing!!!

– Why should I stop using long needles? – you might ask…

I've written about it many times before, but I think it's worth recalling the reasons why it's a good idea:

– Your body, especially your shoulders, will be relaxed! And, consequently…

– No more pain!!!

– You'll be sitting comfortably anywhere… in an armchair, on the sofa, on a chair…

– You'll be able to carry your work with you wherever you go…circular needles are not as bulky as long ones

– You can knit both "back and forth" and "in the round" to create seamless garments.

– Finally, you can fulfill your dream and create a "top-down" sweater.

– If your dream is to learn how to make sweaters with yokes and beautiful Norwegian designs… what can I say… learning to use circular needles seems, to me, truly essential.

What do you say?

Shall we try?

Here's the video lesson where I'll show you how to knit the garter stitch with circular needles and the traditional technique.

In the video lesson, you will see two methods, both valid, so you can choose the one that is easiest for you!

In the next post, you'll see the garter stitch worked with the continental technique, and I'll reveal why it's also worth learning that one.

Happy watching
